Here's the place to find out what's making news and hitting the headlines.
A new power skiving solution comprising CoroMill® 178 and CoroMill 180 cutters from Sandvik Coromant is being released to help automotive manufacturers complete gear and spline components in one set up on a multi-task machine or machining centre. Skiving processes are many times faster than shaping and more flexible than broaching, and are fast becoming an efficient and flexible alternative for gear and spline production.
In order to boost the first stage roughing operation on newly cast aluminium parts for the automotive industry, cutting tool and tooling systems specialist Sandvik Coromant is introducing its M5Q90 tangential milling cutter. Designed to complete ‘cubing’ (first machining of faces after casting) in a single operation without creating burrs, the new tool is fitted with PCD tangential inserts that provide a smooth and stable cutting action to lower power consumption and eliminate vibration. This concept ensures reliable performance, improved tool life, exceptional surface finish, high metal removal rate and an increased number of parts per insert.
The World Economic Forum has officially recognized the Sandvik Coromant production unit in Gimo, Sweden as an advanced Industry 4.0 facility. The plant has been selected as a “lighthouse” site, namely one that comprehensively deploys a wide range of Industry 4.0 technologies and use cases at scale, while keeping humans and sustainability at the heart of innovation.
Two new drills optimized for drilling aluminium automotive parts have been developed by cutting tool and tooling systems specialist Sandvik Coromant. Ideal for the machining of components in medium-to-large volumes, CoroDrill® 400 and CoroDrill 430 deliver higher throughput and lower costs, as well extended tool life and enhanced process security. The drills are supported by CoroTap® 100, 200, 300 and 400, which are also optimised for tapping operations in ISO N materials and help provide a complete hole-making offer from a single source for those tasked with producing aluminium automotive components.
Sandvik Coromant is unveiling an extension to its popular CoroCut® 1-2 carbide and CBN-tipped grooving inserts designed specifically for seal fin machining in HRSA materials. Originally available in 2 mm (0.0.79 inch) widths, the company has responded to market demand by adding a 1.5 mm (0.059 inch) insert that meets the challenges of producing small seal fins on aerospace engine disks and engine casings, giving customers the extra clearances required for robust machining.
Cutting tool and tooling systems specialist Sandvik Coromant is launching GC4330 and GC4340, two new insert grades for steel milling. With the development of advanced production technologies, such as a new substrate, Inveio® coating and an improved post-treatment technology, the new grades provide great opportunities for substantially increased tool life and process security in comparison to the previous generation GC4230 and GC4240 grades, which will now be superseded.
Cutting tool and tooling systems specialist Sandvik Coromant is releasing two series of ceramic end mills for optimized performance in nickel-based alloys. The latest brazed ceramic CoroMill® 316 and ceramic CoroMill Plura end mills offer a more productive method for roughing in ISO S materials than standard carbide milling cutters.
Cutting tool and tooling system specialist Sandvik Coromant is releasing three new grades for its popular CoroDrill® 870 exchangeable-tip drill. GC4334, GC3334 and GC2334 have been developed to offer significant tool life improvements and more predictable wear patterns, all while maintaining the high penetrations rates and productivity for which the concept is renowned.
Cutting tool and tooling system specialist Sandvik Coromant is set to release two new grades for interrupted hard-part turning operations, CB7125 and CB7135. Available in October 2018, the grades will complete the company’s offer for hard-part turning, complementing the existing CB7105 and CB7115 grades.
Cutting tool and tooling system specialist Sandvik Coromant is introducing two new ceramic insert grades that are capable of performing high-speed, high-security turning operations on components made from demanding HRSA (heat resistant super alloy) materials. The CC6220 and CC6230 ceramic grades have been developed to machine demanding materials where whisker ceramics and SiAlONs fall short. Their ability to handle higher cutting speeds contributes to reduced cost per component, while inherent machining security ensures that quality is not compromised to help manufacturers produce high quality parts, time after time
Sandvik Coromant Centres develop processes and solutions to help customers find the optimum point where maximum productivity meets minimum cost
Cutting tool and tooling system specialist Sandvik Coromant has introduced a high-precision hydraulic chuck for turning operations that offers the market’s best pull-out security. CoroChuck® 935 has been designed to deliver fast, rigid and secure clamping, time after time.
Trouble-free precision groove milling in an easy-to-use format is what manufacturers are set to enjoy by using the latest CoroMill® 331 indexable insert cutter from cutting tool and tooling systems specialist Sandvik Coromant. New features set to deliver multiple advantages to customers include internal coolant and light cutting geometries for stable and secure machining.
Cutting tool and tooling system specialist Sandvik Coromant has launched a new thread forming tap optimised for ISO P steel machining which is designed to boost productivity, particularly in the automotive industry. The CoroTap® 400 achieves this by offering chip-free tapping as well as faster machining times and stronger threads through reduced torque and an optimised geometry.
CoroCut® QF is a new concept from cutting tool and tooling systems specialist Sandvik Coromant that has been developed exclusively for face grooving. Designed to deliver unmatched reliability and superior process security, even when machining deep and narrow face grooves, CoroCut QF also provides enhanced accessibility to awkward features.
