Working together for a sustainable future

SustainabilityYour company is committed to sustainability. So is Sandvik Coromant. By working together we can realize goals to make our products and processes environmentally responsible. Often we also gain efficiency at the same time.

One way to ease the strain on the environment is to reduce the amount of energy used in industrial production. High-quality tools and smart processes make that possible. Green logistics is another field we can explore, since businesses like ours rely heavily on transport.

A code of conduct

Sustainability means more than just reducing a company’s environmental footprint. For several years we have been developing a code of conduct for environmental, health and safety management systems that forms the foundation for our work.

We are integrating sustainability into many aspects of our operations, such as reconditioning of solid carbide round tools. We collect your worn tools, which can be reconditioned three times with 100 percent new tool performance guarantees. You can recondition up to 6 or 7 times, depending on the use. When reconditioning is no longer an option, we will purchase your solid carbide tools for recycling. Making new tools from recycled solid carbide requires 70 percent less energy than making them with virgin raw materials, and this delivers a 40 percent reduction in carbon dioxide emissions.

The life cycle of a tool

As we make tools, right from the start we build in a process to facilitate exact replication in future reconditioning. Reconditioning has become part of a tool’s Total Life Cycle. We encourage you to evaluate the benefits and to plan for reconditioning to avoid interruptions in your operations when this is carried out.

When taken together, many small measures towards improved sustainability can make a big difference. We hope that you can join us as we strive to live up to our responsibilities.
