All-directional Y-axis turning
Y-axis turning is a 3-axis simultaneous turning method, where the tool rotates around its own centre. The insert is placed for machining in the Y-Z plane and the milling spindle axis interpolates during turning. As a result, a complex shape or a pocket can be machined with one single tool.
By applying all-directional turning, it is possible to finish complex shapes in one cut without ‘blend points’. Wiper inserts can be kept perpendicular to the surface to have wiper effect also on tapered surfaces.
In Y-axis turning, the main cutting forces are directed into the machine spindle, which provides high process stability. By keeping a constant entering angle during machining, chips can be controlled in an optimal way.
