FAQ

Is reconditioning cost effective?

The price of reconditioning is 1/10 – 1/3 of a new tool, depending on the tool. Recondition your tools three times and the tool cost is reduced by 50% or more compared to the price of a new tool.

Why does Sandvik Coromant only recondition Sandvik Coromant Solid Carbide Drills?

In order to guarantee results we can only recondition Sandvik Coromant Drills.

Are the dimensions of a reconditioned drill the same as a new drill?

As regrinding does remove material from the drill tip, you can expect that each reconditioning makes the tool approximately 0.7 - 1 mm shorter. In addition, since Sandvik Coromant recoats drills as part of the reconditioning process, you can expect each reconditioning to add 3-7 μm to the drill diameter. This is an important consideration for applications requiring extremely tight tolerances. In these applications, it is always best to use a new drill.

What will the performance be like after reconditioning?

A drill (qualified for reconditioning) is guaranteed to perform like new up to 3 reconditioning by Sandvik Coromant.

How long will it take to get my solid carbide drills back?

It will take approximately 15 business days to ship your reconditioned solid carbide drill back to you once it is received at our reconditioning facility.

How many times can a solid carbide drill be reconditioned?

This really depends on the condition of the drill. Sandvik Coromant will guarantee like new performance to a maximum of three times, but it depends on the wear and damage.

How do I send my solid carbide drills to Sandvik Coromant?

For best protection, we suggest that you keep tools in the original box, but you can use any suitable package. Remember to secure the tools with package material to keep them from banging together and chipping. Include the Sandvik Coromant Reconditioning order form (available from your distributor) in the package.
