To put this into perspective, a medium-sized passenger car contains around 160 kg of aluminum components, which are significantly lighter than those previously made from any other materials. Well-designed and light components will be key for hybrid and fully electric cars moving forward. Some examples of different e-mobility components are different types of housings and battery pack frames.
One important thing to remember is that much of the knowledge and the solutions developed for machining traditional automotive components can be transfered and applied to e-mobility components, mainly in the milling, drilling and tapping fields. Below are some tools that offer premium performance for machining aluminum auto components.
The straight flute CoroDrill® 400 is optimized to provide highly productive hole-making in aluminum and cast iron components for the automotive industry
The spiral flute CoroDrill® 430 is optimized to provide extreme efficiency, reliability and durability during hole-making in aluminum and cast iron components for the automotive industry
With its unique insert geometries and configuration, the CoroDrill® 880 offers a balanced, step-by-step entrance into the workpiece. This reduces cutting forces to less than half of typical insert drills and virtually eliminates deflection on entry
CoroMill® Century is a face mill tool system with an aluminum or steel body for high-speed machining. The tool is designed with a serrated insert interface for safe performance and reduced run-out
Finishing face milling concept developed for aluminum automotive components such as cylinder heads, blocks, housings, covers and all components with wide material engagement
M5C90 is a concept face milling tool for high-speed direct finishing of aluminum automotive parts such as cylinder heads, cylinder blocks, and all aluminum parts with wide cutter engagement
M5F90 is a concept face-milling cutter that enables roughing and finishing of thin wall aluminum automotive components in a single operation
M5Q90 cleans the surfaces of newly cast aluminum cylinder heads and engine blocks in one smooth operation, without burring
M5R90 is the first choice for roughing to semi-finishing in shoulder milling operations of aluminum automotive components such as cylinder blocks, cylinder heads and transmission housings
