CoroTurn® XS

Internal machining of small, high-quality features

Instructions

Collet-clamped adapter

Use the collet-clamped adapter for rigid clamping and best performance. With increased stability, micro-vibrations are minimized and longer tool life can be achieved.

Adapters for external tool post

When cylindrical tool positions are limited or nonexistent, you can use square shank adapters as external tool posts in sliding head machines. This results in more free space and higher productivity in the machine.

Recommendations

Choice of tool

Turning (CXS-xxT…)

Turning 98º and 90º for holes down to 0.3 mm (0.012 inch).

Profiling (CXS-xxR…)

For holes down to 4.2 mm (0.165 inch), insert radii 0.5–1 mm (0.02–0.039 inch).

Grooving (CXS-xxG…)

All grooving cutting tools produce grooves with flat bottoms and sharp corner radii. For holes down to 2.0 mm (0.079 inch), insert widths: 0.5–2 mm (0.020–0.079 inch).

Threading (CXS-xxTH…)

Full profile tools for high-quality threads in one operation. For holes down to 4.2 mm (0.165 inch). Thread forms: VP60, M60, UN60, WH55, NPT60, TR30.

Face grooving (CXS-xxF…)

For the narrowest grooves in the smallest diameters. Diameters from 0.2 mm (0.008 inch) and groove depths up to 30 mm (1.18 inch).

Pre-parting (CXS-xxGX…)

For holes down to 5.2 mm (0.205 inch).

Back boring (CXS-xxB…)

For holes down to 4.2 mm (0.165 inch).

Copying (CXS-xxTE…)

Internal copy turning for holes down to 4.2 mm (0.165 inch).

Cutting data

The CoroTurn® XS program is intended for light cutting data with depths of cut between 0.05–0.6 mm (0.002–0.024 inch) and feed between 0.01–0.05 mm (0.0004–0.0016 inch).

Grades

  • First-choice grade for turning is the PVD-coated GC1125 intended to give longer tool life in ISO P, M, N and S materials
  • First-choice grade for general machining is the thin PVD-coated GC1025 intended for average cutting speeds, giving reliable tool life in ISO P, M, N and S materials
  • The uncoated grade H10F is an alternative. Available for ISO N, non-ferrous materials or when an extreme sharp edge is necessary
  • For hardened steels, ISO H, use CBN grade CB7014

Geometries

  • First choice: Flat ground geometry with extremely sharp edge line
  • For optimization: Use ground A-geometry for excellent chip control and to avoid chip jamming in small holes
